  • yes and no. while people were on average stronger and more fit, they're were a lot less people around and more people died at a young age. in the 1800s, you were an old man by the time you reached your thirties. many people were skinny but not already fit. many were actually suffering from malnutrition.

yes work and exercise is good for you, but overworking leaves you exhausted and more likely to get sick. and hospitals were crude, not like now.

there's a fine line between working at a healthy pace and working yourself to death.

they're have always been lazy people, its just the ones without a ton of money died.

Go to any period in time and chances are, you will run into people who think the current technology is making people lazier. i watched 50s tv and read 20s books/magazines where someone was complaining how todays technology was spoiling the youth.

Now, they're more people around thanks to our advanced medical practices so therefore, more lazy people.

on the opposite side of the coin, it hasn't stopped some people from overworking themselves, but now we can do more before we overwork
    ourselves.

theres truth to that, but mostly because there's more people around, and therefore, more lazy people. and you don't have to be rich anymore to be able to sit on you ass.
