Some people tan very easily and it doesn't look gross on them. Although, I do agree it can look bad when a person appears more dark than what looks healthy for their natural colouring.
I will never forget some of the hides of vacationing women I saw while in Jamaica. Their skin looked like tough leather, which is not a look I find particularly beautiful.
