Is it normal to think of pets as family?

Normal. I feel like my pets are family.

If you adopt a child, the child becomes family. If you adopt a pet, wouldn't the pet also become family?

I think many people do this but I also think its weird. Because there not family but you love them. And if something happen to them you'd be hart. Funny I have a little pine tree I like to talk too. haha :-)

Hahah, i talk to my dog all the to time. Hes great to vent to cuz he just cocks his head, sits, and listens. Obviously, like the op said, i know he doesnt understand though.

So normal. I'm so attatched to my pets. Standard poodle and cat. My dog is so smart it's scary.. I mean if you think about a 1 year old baby, they can basically understAnd what you're saying in small talk, if you have a pet for over ten years or even a couple years I'm pretty sure they can understand what you are saying. I know my pets know what I'm saying in a basic manner and they are the best friends you will ever have in ur life!

my pets are my family since you bought them and wanted them they should be a part of the family of course. lol you pay for thier food, and care for em. i think of my pets as if they were my kids. i just took my mouse to the vet the other day cause his tooth needed to be chipped. he is even part of the family LOL!

Normal as breathing. I love my dogs like my kids. They have free reign as a human son or daughter would.

i do the same thing. i talk to my pets like they can understand me. i do think of them as family. :)

Pets aren't strictly family, but I've always treated my dogs as if they were. To be honest, I treated them better than family. Not least because they always treated me better than any family member ever has.
