One thing that helps is to help others. It forces me to break out of my thoughts of pointlessness and gives me the purpose of improving the lives of others. My wife and I do foster care and love it but we've done everything from help with food drives to shovel the snow out of our elderly neighbors' driveways. There is plenty of need out there waiting for someone to help.
