Your example doesn't quite fit. Your personality develops over time based on experience. Negative experiences will factor in, but so does childhood and everything in between. This may effect your dating, but is that all you are? No. You are more than just your appearance.

Posts like this make me wonder if we are really getting smarter about human sexuality or not? People pretend all the "shallow" stuff about human sexuality doesn't exist sometimes.

Of course it does. Nearly everyone are aware of how they look, and when you get attention from your opposite gender easily it affects how you act to a certain degree because you know you can always get away with something based on your appearance.
That's just how it is, it's hard to ignore it fully when you know you have that advantage and the world is tough. Why not use it whenever you can then.
