Is it normal to think living is pointless

So lately I've been thing whats to point of living I mean I don't really think there is much point to religion or afterlife. Or next life or anything of the sort. I don't want to die or anything it's whats the difference if I'm alive or not or if anyone is alive or not. Is this normal?

Living is pointless if you have no goals.

    Otherwise, there is no difference.

    • Human goals in todays world is to get educated, get a job and die, that doesn't sound like something a species is born for.
It's like saying I was born to work until I die, that's not much of a goal. I feel sorry for anyone that say it's either that or your life is pointless.
Maybe if we tried to progress as a species making goals to evolve then what you said would be accurate but sadly only about 10% or less actually have control of how the whole species evolves.

The question of our species purpose is entirely subjective. In the grand scheme of things, there is no job that does not promote the progression of our species. Goals are only limited by the imagination. So long as you are motivated to achieve your goals, you are motivated to continue living. Evolving our species as a whole is not something that one man or one country has control of, this is why our species has evolved differently in different parts of the world. Although, there are fields that can impact worldwide, such as: technology, medicine, or a science. In a long-shot, one mans goal can change our species.

        • We have no control in what evolves, we only have control of what level we already have evolved to.
It's as if you are saying that our species were made to be shoppers and sellers, does that sound like the limit of our species?

We all have goals but our goals in this society isn't what makes us what we are, I'd find that insulting.

Your first statement does not make sense to me. Evolution is the ongoing process that is comprised of series of evolutions. To say we can only evolve from what we have already become is the very definition of evolution. You first write that 10% or less have control over how we evolve, but then you write that we have no control whatsoever. I don't follow.

I am in no way limiting the capabilities of our species. There is a difference between our purpose and the reality that is expected of us to maintain and improve the lifestyle our ancestors have been working for. We use this lifestyle as our catalyst for progression. Outside of natural occurrences, I believe our goals have EVERYTHING to do with what we are, who we are, and how we perceive ourselves today in comparison to X years ago. I am truly sorry that it insults you.

Survive, procreate, civilize, explore, invent, improve.

            • What I ment by "we" have no control is that people that aren't in high places have no place in how we evolve and so we place our goals on how that 10% have changed the world. We don't progress, we work at the level of evolution that the 10% have taken us too. We aren't exploring anything, that 10% is.

If anything, we are just following.

Life is pointless. Its called getting older. There is no afterlife, so that makes life pointless, since you wont remember any of it when you die.Its a shame that women keep forcing babies into a pointless world, because they are needy, and need to force someone to have to care about them.

It's pointless yet, The things you do can effectively leave a negative/positive Mark in human memory when you die.

It is pointless. Many philosophers reached that conclusion. All the more reason to live it up and enjoy just being here. Forget looking for a point.

The only people who don't have to work are people like Paris Hilton. Even beggars have to work. If the word work is so very scary to you, then yeah your life is pointless. But please don't become a lifelong welfare dependent, draining our tax money and causing society as a whole to regress. Again if you don't like it, do whatever you can to get into the 10%

Even if there is no afterlife, you can still do things to make a difference in this life. Make something of yourself and try to help others, whether it be working in a soup kitchen, or donating money to charity. One of the reasons I wish to be wealthy some day is so that I can donate money to things which helped me. I would love to donate money to the community college I am going to some day. It's a wonderful place but some things could use some work; they're helping me get a good education and one day I would like to repay them for that so they can continue to give people better educations in the future.

  • Sounds like depression. If that's the case it's normal.

Yeah, I understand what your saying. I was in a bit of panic over this a while ago but I decided that I might as well just enjoy it while its here..... available to me.
