Is it normal to think like this?

This happened to me a few months back while I was sitting for a major exam. All around me, I envisioned my classmates and neighbouring classmates whom I know being killed in many ways and picturing the blood spewing everywhere. A red room from a bloodbath. I am not sure if it was caused by stress but just want to make sure I do not have to get myself checked.

I think it's (somewhat) normal for you to imagine such things, so long as you have no urge to do them. If you start thinking about actually carrying through with these thoughts, you should probably get help as soon as possible.

Although many people will say this is not normal, it actually is. According to the psychology definition for "obsessions," they are unwanted thoughts or images that occur over and over. If you don't actually want these things to happen, and you didn't intentionally think of these things, it is completely normal. EVERYONE has obsessions of some sort. You can even ask some of your friends if they've ever had thoughts about hurting people or themselves, but would never act upon it, and wouldn't even want to. I can guarantee you most of them will say they did.
