Is it normal to think i'm going to die

Okay, basically I'm normally the most relaxed person you will ever meet. Nothing bothers me. I've often been told I'm too relaxed but lately before I go to sleep I start feeling tight in my chest. I've had severe panic attacks where I've had to have friends there to calm me down. I can't breathe properly and my heart rate sky rockets. It honestly feels like my hearts giving in and I'm going to die. It has been getting more frequent....not usually during the day but always when I go to bed. The doctor was quick to say I had an anxiety disorder and subscribed anti depressants. I really don't feel like it's anxiety though. I'm worried that because I used to take drugs (stupid I know and I certaintly don't anymore) that I've somehow damaged myself.

Has anyone else experienced this? Please don't put stupid replies as this is a legitimate concern.

Very normal, first off its great you are scarred of dying. Panic attacks are horrible, i am on zoloft for mine and have a severe anxiety disorder mostly caused by intense drug use.

You should try some xtreme sports if able, they get you on edge and close to death if you wish, maybe this will show you your concerns are not that significant, get out and get your mind off of these issues.

Maybe its like your body is trying to get the excercise it needs. Like, (As in literal excesize) when someone who's never active is shaking their leg.

I'm saying that you need to do stuff that's not relaxing.

I completely understand. I do the same exact thing. I went to the doctor last week because I thought I was having a heart attack. But there's nothing wrong with my heart

If it were your heart you would have tightness and be short of breath on exertion. Follow the MDs advise.

Maybe your body is just late side effects on any kinds of drugs that you used to take. That may be part of your problem, the rest im not sure of yet.

i don't know what's causing the panic but try relaxation techniques when you start feeling that way. it's the only way i can get through those times. also getting a perscription like ativan would help if used properly. definitely see a doc about it. hope it gets better cause i know living with anxiety isn't fun :(

It's a panic disorder. No heart problems at your age would present like that. Even with drugs. FYI-cocaine is the most damaging drug to the heart. Your doctor is on the right track. Find a counselor to figure out what you can do to prevent/decrease these attacks. (I'm a psychiatrist, BTW)
