Just do a little bit of investigating, if he is in fact guilty and thinks your clueless then he'll continue. Don't get all nutty with suspicion unless you have good reasons to do so, go slowly and investigate a little bit.
I don't think you should *ever* go through your significant other's phones, especially when he's never done anything wrong. She shouldn't project her insecurities onto him that way without any real cause for suspicion.
