  • I relate to your woes regarding girly girls, since I have two for younger sisters, but I'm confused by the 'know your role' thing. My role as a woman is whatever I want it to be, not what I 'know' it to be based on what people, both men and women, expect of women.
I swear like a sailor, never wear makeup, hike, camp, climb trees, and burp unashamedly. I love skirts and dresses, scented candles, cute animals, and fuzzy blankets. I'm so adventurous (read: reckless) that the ER staff in my hometown knows me by name.
I feel just as feminine covered in mud, blood, and sweat as I do showered down and dressed up for a night out. Femininity is a mindset and a belief about yourself way more than it is a set of sociocultural definitions. If you feel feminine without makeup, doing chores around the house, letting your man take the wheel - power to you. It sounds like it works for YOU and that's what important.
    Rock on, Sister.
