  • Cool. I've got quite a life story and would always feel that something is "not quite right" Philosophy helped me make more sense of this. Its not that everything is fake, it's more language fails to describe 'reality'.
A journey through philosophy is, at worst, very interesting. You wont view the world the same again. Some of it is very academic and lots will leave you thinking "what are they on about"
If i may be so bold; for lucidity and easy to follow arguments may i recommend: Arthur Schopenhauer -essays and aphorisms; David charmers - The Conscious Mind: In Search of a Fundamental Theory. The main thing? Don't be put of by Philosophy's academic image, Try it. Visit your local library and ask for the Philosophy section, choose a book that interests you, take it home and read it.
Just re-reading your post, the real/fake thing is covered in metaphysics. For more about "why can't i just do what i want" try philosophy of morals or society. Some philosophers speak on lots of different subjects. Others 'specialize' in say, Language.
Wikipedia has a list of the best? top? greatest? philosophers and their disciplines.
One final thought, look back; If it interests you. Read some Plato or Aristotle, get inside the mind of an academic from over 3000 years ago. They very much like modern man. Enjoy!
