Is it normal to think a license should be required to raise children?

We use enforced and sometimes unreasonably excessive restrictions on who can drive a car, own a gun, visit other countries, get certain jobs, and many other things. People have rules for so many things, but there are effectively none on who can create and control the first 18 years of a human life. It's not until after you've ruined the lives of some children that anyone will start to notice how unfit you are to have kids, and even then most child abuse is unreported. Getting a job can involve physical testing, psychological evaluation, and background checks but the much larger responsibility of becoming a parent requires none of this. Why are job requirements more valuable than human life? The next generation has no protection from the most dangerous people out there. Being a parent needs to require psychological testing and a standardized education course about raising children if the quality of our lives is going to improve. Certain people such as rapists need to have their genitals removed to make sure they don't have kids just to use them for their sick fantasies. We owe it to our future to make sure they don't grow up affected by bad parenting.

I honestly think that if the previous generation takes into consideration how their actions effect the next generation, our society won't be as screwed up as it is now.

Personally, I agree with what you're saying. Being a parent requires a lot of patience, money, and a certain amount of maturity that some people do not have.

I'll do you one better and actually say that I advocate the breeding out of some genes. Similar to how you said that rapists shouldn't reproduce, I believe that we should do that but on a wider scale. I think that anybody who has a criminal record or is just a cruel person should not be allowed to pass on his traits and affect the society of tomorrow with individuals like him. Japan actually has a system similar to this where they don't allow certain people to breed and any child who is born with down syndrome is killed at birth. Sounds cruel but it is effective.

I completely agree with what you're saying but the problem with this sort of thing is that you can't properly evaluate a parent. If anything I sort of believe that females should have a chip inside their fallopian tube that prevents them from getting pregnant, thus no unplanned pregnancies. If a woman wants to get pregnant then the state will pay for surgery to remove the chip. I think that by doing this we can make planned parenthood more possible and allow for a better society. Also creating a device like that would put a lot of people in business. I know that my idea to create a better society sounds cruel in theory but I believe that in some cases people simply do not know what is good for them.

Yes, I feel that this is completely normal. I am interested in other use feedback as I have thought of this myself.

But the problem is that there is way too much room for corruption in this. How are you going to stop people from having kids, sterilization? Like how the government felt Native Americans shouldn't have kids and sterlized them when they went in to deliver their children? The government having the power to decide who can and can't have kids leaves way to much room for abuse of that power. It's the one right we haven't had taken away from us.

Besides, giving government that kind of power? No way. That's insane. The government needs to stay the fuck out of our bedrooms. Government is NOT always the solution. Look at what it has already done, do you REALLY trust OUR government to pick who should and shouldn't breed? What a laugh.

It's normal that you feel this way as you are correct, some people just SHOULD NOT have kids, but it is not a feasible solution.

you make a really good point. however i don't think it is part of the role of government to control such a primal, fundamental, intrinsic part of humanity.

We need to reach out to our peers and teach our children to do the same. People cheat on exams and people lie. Rules can be followed until they hold that paper in their hands, then it all falls apart. Corruption exists everywhere. The best way is to reach out and teach by example.

More government regulation is rarely the solution.

I like the above ideas but young girls don't need a chip they can get an implant in their arm that lasts up to 5 years. The only problem is - they're too stupid to get it and so have un-planned pregnancies.

One girl I know is 21 yo, has 4 children, and has no partner. Kids are being neglected, so I told her friend to take her to the Family Planning at once!!
