Is it normal to talk to my biological father after all this time?

My biological father went to jail when I was young but now that i'm older we have began writing to each other. Although some of the things he writes are lies I still write to him but it makes me wonder what does he write that is true? I also know that some of my family doesn't like me writing to him because they've moved on and only add to the letter I write to him for me. At the beging I felt like I was betraying my family but now I don't think they mind as much. For me to write and recieve a letter back it takes about a week unless I get destracted and don't write to him for a long time, but when I wait for a letter from him I can't help but feel hurt when I don't see a letter from him. I can't help but wonder is it normal for me to keep on writing?

Is It Normal?

  • i wouldnt think it's normal no, i mean i dont talk to my dad either. he's never been to jail but he's mean though and he also lies a lot. but good for you, if you get along with your dad then keep talking to him :)

  • Just make sure to alter your expectations accordingly.

  • I think it's normal to want to have some kind of contact with your biological father but the fact that he is lying to you is not a good sign. I don't know the exact circumstances (like what he lied to you about, why he's in jail, etc) so I can't really give you advice on whether or not to keep in touch with him.
