As far as I'm concerned you're completely normal. I'd be willing to surmise that Doyle was the most stable member of your family and offered you lots of unconditional love, comfort, moral support and security.
I lost my dog that I grew up with when I was around your age. Her name was Diamond and she was white mutt who liked to dig and roll in the mud but she was the sweetest dog. I grew up in Texas with a fairly large backyard and lots of animals. Diamond was gentle and loving towards all of them. Our rabbits and Guinea pigs were especially fond of her.
I'm now 44 years old and living alone in a townhouse with my Siamese cat, Andrew, and whenever Diamond comes to mind I miss her. If I think about her enough tears will come to my eyes.
Is it normal to still miss my dog?
