You shoudln't call the cops because either way he's your father and you need to respect him, just talk to him about it because even if you did mouth off to him hitting you is abuse and he could get in serious trouble if someone sees it. If he doesn't listen then just move out, if your an adult now you need to star making your life your own and not let others run it for you, i grew up with a very strict step-mother also so i know how it feels. You just need to not let it stop you from making something of your life.
