There is supposed to be an inherited component to extreme shyness. I was terrified of dating, public speaking, all social situations. Zoloft helped but I went into a line of work that required dealing with pts with mean supervisors criticizing me all the time. You are afraid of making a fool out of yourself. I made a fool of myself so many times I didn't care anymore. You might take a waiters job and force yourself to deal with the public. It is a deconditioning process. It's not comfortable but it works. My husband went to Toast Masters.
