Is it normal to sometimes see people outside yourself?

Ok so the title may sound strange but this is what i mean. Sometimes when i am looking at people or places for a couple minutes i suddenly stop seeing them as people i know or how i usually see them but i see them as just people. Its kind of like i'm seeing them as a stranger outside of my mind that knows stuff about them. Its very strange when it happens and i kind of feel small when this happens like in the way that you feel small when you think of how hugely populated the earth is.I guess the feeling is like the one you get when you repeat a word over and over and it looses its meaning.

Is It Normal?

  • I get that too, sort of makes me depressed. I'd say normal :P

  • It just means you have great empathic skills. You can disconnect yourself from you emotional attachments to people and things and view them from a completely different vantage point. Some people need what you've got...

  • It doesn't make me depressed at all, but I've done this EXACT same thing multiple times and agree with you completely. It happens randomly but I forced myself to 'zone out of myself' one day to see what other people see when they see my best friends. As I see them all the time, it was strange stepping out and seeing them as just people and not anyone I was close to.

  • Now, do that while looking at yourself in a mirror, preferably a large mirror. That'll trip you out.
