I don't call checking or following someone's facebook or insta as stalking. I feel there needs to be another word created for online stalking. Because is there anyone who's had those accounts and yet has never "secretly or habitually followed/viewed" another? Come on now, anyone with half a brain knows those apps/sites are specifically designed for that sort of activity. Facebook was originally made so you could stalk your classmates or see which class other people are in, more so than keeping in touch with friends.
Anyway, semantics aside, I've done it several times for all sorts of reasons myself. Few rare times the stalking has turned into a mini obsession but I don't make a fuss of it because I'm always in control of myself and grounded even when smitten over someone. The fact you say you are "in love" with someone you have never even talked to was slightly worrying. But then your last statement is reassuring. See riffraffy's comment. Great level-headed stuff right there
