  • It's called Autosomal Dominant Compelling Helioophthalmic Outburst Syndrome (ACHOO Syndrome, and the "Peroutka Sneeze Gene". It's a hereditary trait that causes sneezing (due to naso-ocular reflex) when suddenly exposed to bright light, possibly many times consecutively. It affects 18-35% of the human population. I do it too!

  • I've found if I have a sneeze coming, it helps to look at a bright light to get it out. I think it's something in the squinting that makes you do it.

  • Yes! I also have ACHOO syndrome and I sneeze exactly 3 times every time I see a bright light.

  • Yes. When I can't sneeze I usually look up at the sun. :)
