Is it normal to sleep more than 10 hours a day?

I don't know why, but I did sleep for 10 or more hours almost everyday. I just feel like sleepy and exhausted. Once I go to bed, I would sleep like a sloth. Is it a matter of age? (I'm 17)
Or maybe it's some kind of disorder?

Get your blood tested for nutritional deficiencies. I used to sleep for like 10 hours each night too, and even then I'd still be tired during the day a lot. Went to the doctor, turns out I was just lacking some important stuff, took some supplements and it got better.

Do you feel generally positive about your life most of the time? Or do you feel emotionally down, generally lacking in energy and enthusiasm for anything and consider the hours you sleep the best part of your day?

If the latter is the case, then it would be a good idea to talk to a health professional about what's going on. You could be depressed or suffering from some physiological problem.

But if you feel generally happy with your life and when you do eventually wake up you feel well-rested, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. At seventeen, your body and brain are still in the process of going through some major changes, and getting enough sleep is very important.

For what it's worth, the National Sleep Foundation says that people your age should get between eight and ten hours of sleep every night.

It's possible that you just might have a sleep disorder like sleep apnea.

Well, you have nothing to worry about physically, if you're only 17. How sleep habits affect your health changes with age though. I've read somewhere that it's unsafe to get too much sleep when you get older, like over 40 something or 50, like you shouldn't sleep more than 9 or 10 hours a night, and sleeping more than 12 hours a day is dangerous. The reason being that your heart, lungs, and muscles already atrophy faster as you age, and if you then spend half your days sleeping, where you're barely moving, how much you're speeding that up. However, I believe that how active you are during your waking hours can make a big difference. I mean, if you're 50, you sleep 12 hours a day, and then spend the other 12 a couch potato, then you're really asking for trouble. But if you're sleeping 12 hours but then spending 8 of your waking hours at a job moving furniture or some other physical job, or even if your job isn't physical but you're running 30 minutes a day or going to the gym an hour a day, I'm sure that helps your health

Could be a disorder. I need 12-14 per night (obviously I don’t get it though) because of my genetic disorders
