  • wise and ang, it's true that i'm "justifying it" here, but only because i actually do believe that part of the reason i steal goes way beyond the thrill aspect of it. i mean, it's not like i'm stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise here. maybe more like 10 bucks. and after years of having done this, there's really nothing very thrilling about it anymore. it's more like a habit i can't break. and one that stems from genuine anger.

the justification part is completely valid in my eyes. food prices are jacked up, and it's because of our imperialist neoliberal economic practices which allow jerks on the stock market to speculate on food prices. THIS is true stealing in my eyes. these people are the reason that 3/4 of the world actually can't afford to feed themselves. because grain prices are inflated, sugar prices are inflated. it's not because sugar and grain are actually inherently expensive. it's because an elite top strata is allowed to make money off of a basic human need--the need to ingest food.
for the first time in history we have the technological prowess to feed the entire world. instead, more than half the world's population is starving, while a couple fatass countries get fatter. and throw ships of food into the water to "regulate" supply and demand.
now, i find this nauseating, and the fact that i can't do anything about it makes me feel powerless and disillusioned with the political system. because really, no matter how you vote, you're simply NOT going to change the already disastrous effects neoliberalism has had on the world. it sparks this anarchist vein in my body.

it's too easy to reduce this particular habit of shoplifting to the "for the thrill of it" narrative. i'm a little beyond that. i'm not five years old anymore, and i think my problem is more complex.

to the other posts...well, they're not even worth addressing.
