Is it normal to seriously consider preparing for a catastrophe?

I never thought I'd be in that weird group of people who buy into all that end-o-the-world ruckus. I mean, I knew of people who actually bought a cabin in the middle of nowhere and stockpiled it in preparation for Y2K!
Anyway, I'm finding the conspiracy theories, end of time predictions, natural disasters and economic upheavals messing with my head.
I haven't done anything yet because the logistics of it seems pretty crazy to me, but I've been thinking I need to seriously prepare. I'm feeling like there will come a time when surviving will take serious effort. I often imagine how I could manage with a baby on my back. I guess if I were a millionaire then I'd be one of those millionaires with a multi-million dollar missile silo converted into a 'end of the world' bunker...but I'm not so I guess its just bottled water and a baseball bat for me :P
Do a lot of people feel this way?

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • I have a strong belief that the zombie apocalypse is coming. almost all the traits of zombies can be caused by individual diseases (albeit rare ones) so its entriely plausible and i believe it is coming.

  • There is a lot of times when the world may end. Maybe tomorrow. The best thing you should do is make sure you do not regret anything. Missiles will kill you and you will be dead and regret things. It is better to not regret things.

  • Play fallout 3 and you'll have so much fun. On another note what if the missle they send drops on your house? I doubt you'll live lol. I think your worrying for nothing honestly.

  • It's not just the end-of-the-world scenarios that could throw things into such total chaos that you might need that kind of stuff to ensure personal survival.

Global warming is here, to deny it is sheer foolishness. There are going to be more and more severe natural disasters happening. Even if nothing happens in your area/country, it can still impact your daily life.

To me, only the people who don't prepare are fools.

By the way, some religions encourage food storage and emergency preparation. I'm not religious myself, but I know for a fact that almost all Mormons practice some sort of food storage.

    • You are arrogant for thinking that us humans can seriously destroy the earth or even change its climate.

Sometime far in the earths history the world was so cold there were no clouds and its whole surface was ice. How was it saved? Volcanoes belching trillions of tons of greenhouse gases into the air.
