After you have been in darkness for a few minutes, your eyes become more sensitive to light and you will be able to see more than you could just after you turned the light off.
Could it not just be light that reflects off those objects that you don't see before your eyes have completely adjusted?
The light source could be anything from outside (maybe just a little light makes it through your curtains) to even a standby LED on your TV or phone charger, maybe even in another room and reflects off walls to get to you.
Is it normal to see this at night?
