Is it normal to say 'i love you' but not dating?

My best friend is the best guy in the world. I absolutely adore him, couldn't live without him, and I do love him. And I know he feels the same for me. But we constantly say I love you to each other. We both know it's just in a friend way but is that wierd? I guess what I want to know is if a boy and a girl can say I love you to each other even if they arn't dating? Normal? And does anyone else have this kind of relationship with a friend of the opposite sex?

Is It Normal?

  • I'm a guy and my best friend is a girl.
We say we love each other all the time. She's the best friend I've ever had and the only friend I trust 100%.
My girlfriend was a little weary that I was so close to a girl who I wasn't interested in, but nothing has ever happened between us and we don't see each other in that way.

So I definitely think it's normal and healthy and I'm sure it means a lot to your friend to hear you say you love him :)

  • Yes. I have this friend and I who say I love you all the time and we are being serious. We've been saying this for about a year and a half now. We both like each other, but we aren't dating.Which, honestly, doesn't make much sense to me. :/

  • nothing wrong w/ that. you're really good friends obviously, so it's normal to love each other.

  • No, I don't want him for anything more than friends. Lol sorry if it sounded like that. I just love him like a best friend.

  • I have a good friend beyond these seas, I have never met her, but we constantly say "love you" to each other, specially when we are ending our conversation, and we do love each other, and a lot, but like friends.

I say it's normal, but I think, by the way you say things, that you want him for something more than just "good friends", if he doesn't has a gf then ask him what does he thinks, you might be surprised :) good luck!

  • I think that's normal. I have male friends that I say "I love you" to. But they are like brothers to me. You can't help who you love and it's good to say it to the people you care for.
