Is it normal to remember things in images?

When I try to recall something, like the capital of a country or a flashcard I made for studying; I don't just remember the answer. I actually picture what ever it was, written out how it was on the card or I see an image of the place/thing.

Is It Normal?

  • I have a weird system for remembering. I attribute the things I need to remember to things that are important to me or things that have happened in my life. Capital cities are a good example. For instance: Lesotho. I imagine Lesotho to be a car company releasing a model called the Maseru (the capital). I imagine people driving this car wearing high heels which gives the stereotypical gay image of a lisp and so their language is Sesotho (if lisped) but it also helps with their first king (Moshoeshoe). When I think of Lesotho, I know it's landlocked by South Africa so then I think of South Africa and Thabo Mbeki and this leads me to the capital in Moshoeshoe's day which was Thaba Bosiu (the Bosiu comes from the speaker manufacturer Bose who I see as amplifying Mbeki's speeches).

It's not so much how I remember things as how I link things together.

  • I'm the exact same way. I've been like this for as long as I can remember.
