Is it normal to register for gifts when throwing a housewarming party?

Is it normal to register for gifts, ask to bring a dish, and byob to a housewarming party? Shouldn't you get food and drink for bringing the gift? Who registers for a housewarming?

Is It Normal?

  • Tacky! Let me be the first to say between weddings and babies. People are sick of buying $hit for you! People bring gifts to a housewarming as a nice gesture. Not as a requirement. Seriously you don't need a fondue set or marble rolling pin ms greedy.

  • HAHAHAHAHA that is mental, like bring ur own bottle is fine, bringing your own dish is acceptable, registering for gifts? WHAT??

  • (this doesn't mean that you don't get gifts, just that you aren't the impetuous child who gets to pick them out. Gifts should be given from the heart or not at all.)

  • Tacky to gift register for ANYTHING, weddings included! And if you are hosting you should host, not expect your guests to feed you and other guests.

  • I understand that you are supposed to bring gifts, what I don't think is appropriate is to ask to bring food and drink as well ads a gift. Shouldn't I get some food and a beer for bringing the gift? Like a wedding?

  • I've never been to a housewarming where gifts were not taken by each guest. I thought that was the reAson for hosting one. I could be wrong though.

  • It Is normal. Hello?! That's why you even have a house warming party. People know they aren't obligated to get anything but if they are family members or close friends, they probably want to to help out with the new house. Registering just helps people out with knowing the color scheme if things.

  • I think its waaaay inappropriate to register for a house warming party! Id get them nothing then! Just to spite them! As far as BYOB, Id prob stock one kind of beer, maybe a keg. Then if you only like a specific kind, to byob. Then obv. soda/water. Some food, but Id prob ask close family members to make a small dish, to help out. Most people will make something small & have no probs with that.
