Is it normal to really like hello kitty in your 20s?

I'm a 24 year old female and I really enjoy hello kitty. I collect stuffed animals of her and other assorted items with her image on them (ex. Clocks, water bottles, keychain toys, stickers, picture books, toys of her, anything with her face on it basically). Its kind of strange because until four years ago, I thought she was creepy and avoided her. But now I feel this connection to hello kitty and she makes me happy. My dad and a couple other people in my life don't like it and think its strange that I'm an adult and like/collect her. I dont think its a problem, but it makes me feel insecure if its generally viewed as weird or creepy.

Sounds like it could be an expensive hobby.

I think guys are more inclined to collect, but some women feel that need too, so you're not weird in that sense. I don't see why the fact that you're interested in heavily commercialised cartoonish character that was specifically designed to appeal to little girls should make any difference in itself. Do you think your father would find it weird if you happened to be his son and you collected Matchbox cars or model railway trains?

Collecting can be harmless, but it can also turn into an obsession that has a major impact on personal finances and takes over the life of the collector. As long as you're still in control, I see no reason why you shouldn't just enjoy your silly Japanese cat clones.

It sounds weird from a bystanders viewpoint, but then again don't we all do weird stuff?

People always have a problem with what others do no matter how harmless.

Usually when people collect things or have a hobby, that is why they keep it to themselves. Of course it is natural to want to be proud or show off hobbies or collections but then some asshole will say it is creepy, stupid, useless or cheap or whatever.

Some people insist on ruining other's happiness.
