Re-trolling trolls is counterproductive at best and seems like an oxymoron. If they've gotten to you enough to compel you to respond to them then they've succeeded. Furthermore, there often seems to be a fine line between trolling and having an unpopular opinion.
For example, I frequent a certain gaming forum and a lot of the times, what some might perceive as trolling turns out to be a genuine post whereby the context is just uncommon. One forumer posted a thread about the death of their loved one (I remind you, that was on a gaming forum) and was asking other forumers for donations to go towards helping them bury their loved ones. At first, many of us dismissed it as a troll and a scam attempt but eventually found out that it was genuine and, as a community (a gaming community) many players stood up and actually donated money to help that player / poster.
Be careful of automatically dismissing everything you read, but are skeptical of, as a trolling attempt. Sometimes, they are genuine and re-trolling the "troll" might end up making you look like the idiot.
This is so true. People do not understand what trolling is. Not saying I am a troll but I find it annoying that someone having a different opinion must be a troll. If 9 out of 10 do not believe in the death penalty by default the 10th must be a troll. Since apparently the group majority are the only ones who deserve to have an opinion. Which just shows how very close minded a person is by tossing out this accusation. So it is a way to exclude those who disagree with other peoples opinion by promoting your one sidedness. Trolls tend to be more exaggerated though some people may also have a habit of exaggerating naturally. Just because an opinion is different from your own does not mean its a lie. The people who assume this are probobly all very prejudice to anyone who does not agree with their way of thinking. So I think it is easy to label these people idiots.
Is it normal to re-troll trolls?

They don't get to me, I just enjoy doing it. Trolling innocent people is not fun for me nor is it very difficult to do so I troll trolls instead.
