Is it normal to rather not know someone's name?

Is it Normal that when I meet a new friend or acquaintance, that I would rather not know their name? (Especially if they seem like really nice people) because I have obsessive compulsive disorder and I can't control the thoughts in my head and these thoughts are usually really bad and I fear everybody can read my mind? So as long as I don't know their names, I'm not embarrassed to talk to them. Is that normal?
