If you can't smell it, then tell her you can't smell it.
When people, even family ask me things like 'how do i look' or in your case 'how does this smell' I'm completely honest. I wouldnt want to walk around asking people things such as that only to recieve a phoney answer. I want to know the genuine truth. So, just be honest. You don't have to be mean about it either. There are nice ways to tell someone the truth, even when you think its not what they want to hear.
