Is it normal to put makeup on an infant for cute instagram posts?

This woman has a baby and she always posts pics of her infant with makeup on. One time someone commenting saying how it’s disturbing that she feels the need to put makeup on her baby for instagram. I agree with that statement. What does everyone else think?

What the heck? I can understand every once in a while maybe putting eyebrows or some shit on a baby just for laughs (I did it to my little sister) but to actually go all out with full face makeup multiple times just to post the baby online is stupid. Why does she feel the need to do that? ITS A FUCKING BABY. Not to mention their skin and eyes are much more sensitive than adults so I really hope she’s not putting mascara and shit on the baby.

    1. Sexualizing children is disgusting. Makeup is to improve sex appeal, it's not meant for children.

    2. Babies are extremely sensitive and you could be causing an allergic reaction down the line.

People exposed to irritants regularly can develop life-threatening allergies later in life.

I find that very weird and disturbing.

I know some women feel naked without loads of make-up, but when it comes down to it, make-up is designed to make women more sexually appealing. It's applied to make them appear youthful and healthy, and it emphasises the lips and eyes which are sexual signalling features.

Putting make-up on an infant either turns the baby into a comedy prop, or sexualises her. Doing either suggests that the mother is either very immature and attention-seeking, or she has more serious issues.

Make up does not sexualize. People sexualize children. That being said I don’t agree that putting make up on an infant is appropriate— mostly for health reasons.

Makeup does sexualize. It's entirely meant to improve sex appeal.

Lipstick and blush were invented to mimic the flush of sexual arousal in a woman, in order to attract the attention of men.

This is just as specious as the, "Guns don't kill people; people kill people," argument.

You might find it hard to accept, but of course cosmetics are used to sexualise.

They have been ever since ancient Babylonian women used belladonna to enlarge their pupils (a sign of being sexually attracted to the person being looked at, and so something men find attractive), used liner to draw attention to their eyes and make them look more youthful, and coloured their cheeks and lips to look like healthy potential mothers (and create subconscious thoughts about other female lips).

The same thing kind of happened to me. I was probably 6 when I was begging my mom to get my ears pierced and it took a while but she finally let me. Of course they got infected. So then I waited until I was 16 to get them pierced and it was fine lol

I don't understand it too. Does the mother craves for likes? I think that children have more fun playing outside with other kids or just doing kids' stuff than sitting patiently while being put on make up to pose for instagram. However ever since I've become a mother I tend to be less judgemental about other parents. I'm not the mother I thought I would be. Sometimes I just play tv for my little to watch because I'm too tired to play with him. Something I promised myself not to do when I was pregnant.

Good intentions tend to fly out the window once a very real infant is shrieking in your face at two in the morning.

I hope you're being just as non-judgemental about your own parenting as you are about others. We all do the best we can. If you manage to raise a decent human being, he or she will come to accept that sooner or later.

Yeah, a baby doesn't need makeup. Shes risking the baby's skin health just so she can get attention on Instagram. It's pretty selfish. Completely, unrelated but when I was nine, I put my mother's lipstick and blush on the family dog, Blackie and took photos with a disposable camera from Pathmark. My mentality at the time was "everyone calls her good girl so, let's make her look like one." It got me in trouble. Lol

It creeps me out when people make up babies and children. It's like they think they're dolls to be played with rather than humans.

Plus it'll fuck with their skin

What really creeps me out is when the people who have the little girls in the pageants make them wear the denture like fake teeth called flippers to cover up the holes in their smiles that come from when children start losing baby teeth, and getting adult teeth. It freaks me out!

Those pageants where they make the little kids up like little prostitutes are disturbing in general.

Yeah, it's crazy! The makeup doesn't freak me out too much, because I was was in ballet, and I have to wear makeup for a recital before when I was little. The flippers are just eww.

It's bad enough on it's own to post pictures of your baby online, but with makeup? Your baby is not a fucking doll, ITS YOUR CHILD, DO NOT PUT MAKEUP ON THEM UNTIL THEY ARE OLD ENOUGH TO LET YOU. Same goes with posting pictures of your baby online. The second that pic is posted, it's not just your baby anymore. Anyone can see the photo. You've robbed your child of privacy before they could even make decisions for them self. I'm honestly disgusted by these people.

Inclined to agree, but it has to be said that most infants look pretty much the same.

I do think that public posts of kids once they start to look like individuals isn't a great idea, since none of us know what the future holds.

It reminds me of a comic I sw that my room mate posted. You see this mom basically encouraging her young daughter to dress and act like a hoe but then the last panel - the girl is pregnant and the mother is crying, "where did I go wrong?"

Poor baby... your baby, your choice, but makeup can be harmful to adults. So imagine it on a baby.

It's her business. I wouldn't because as a dude, I suck with makeup and she would look like Mimi*drew carey.

You might not want to... it could harm the baby... baby's have weak bodily funtions/weak immune system ect..... the stuff inside the make up could get the baby sick! i am making an educated guess but id look up some info online... and id clean it up imediately! just in case it gets in the babys mouth

    • I’d love to post it for everyone to see what I’m talking about but I just don’t feel right about it. She puts eye shadow and blush and lipstick on her. I can imagine she gets strange looks when she takes her baby out in public

Better than piercing your baby's ears, which certain cultures do.

I have seen a lot of Latino people getting infants ears pierced, and although I am half Colombian I always thought it an odd thing to do. I got my ears pierced when I was about five years old, but it was my decision.

That’s how I feel. I’m not going to mutilate my kid without their consent. And that’s how I feel about circumcision as well. If they want to do that shit when they’re older, they can do it.
