Is it normal to punish dogs when they do something bad or bark

  • Haha sounds like quite the actress. A telegraphed pat on the bum is fine for getting attention it just doesn't help to train them.

    I snap my fingers or coo for attention but the best catch all is "UH on your rug." It helps them pause and think and if you are repetative it can be used with different inflections to tell your dogs different types of "on your rug".

    What kind of dog do you have Ellena?

    • Border collie/kelpie cross, both energetic working dog breeds, so she has lots of energy even though she's not young and is rather unpredictable, but then so am I!

      • I wanna tell you. I washed dishes from 12 til 16 to buy my kelpie. She is half workng breed half show. I spent 2k to get her. I paid to fly her here from peŕth.

      • Kelpies and border collies are very energetic. I have a 12 and 5 year old kelpie atm. The 12 year old still wants to run but her heart gives a bit so i have to slow her down. My 5 year old can out run a ute hehe i love them so much.
