Is it normal to punish dogs when they do something bad or bark

    Thanks I will check it out.

    While I enjoy thinking of my dogs as companions that do have human like emotions, i do not train them as a human being.

    I would smack a child on the butt, to get its attention, so I could reason with it. Not a dog who can't be reasoned with.

    A dog will only consider a smack playing or aggression. It won't aide in training unless you want a dog thats scared of you. If thats your goal, please don't own dogs.

    Repetition, consistancy and reinforcing of behavior is how you train a dog. It's quite simple but it takes work and most people lack the self control and patience to do it properly. That's why there are so many poorly trained animals about.

      Abimals, attrbtion? So smacking a child on the butt that you can talk to is okay. But smacking a dog on the butt who you can't speak with and where such things are part of normal social dynamics that's a horrible act. You need to reevaluate how you treat children.

        Yes if a child is about to run into the street or do something dangerous a smack is appropriate. To get it's attention only.

          Or if you're close enough to fuckin hit them, grabbing them and pulling them away from the dangerous situation totallg isn't an option...
