  • I guess people pretend to be a different nationality, because they think they aren't good enough, and that they will be more interesting, more likable and generally more exotic and unique if they pretend to be someone different. I think I probably entertained pretended I was English, or German for a short while when I was in high school, but I'm one of those people who is an awful liar, and lies feel even worse than my less than stellar foriegn accents. Sometimes I will do a Scottish accent, and that rather entertains other Americans, but I would probably implode into a dense, little blackhole compromised entirely out of my own shame if a real Scottish person heard my fake accent.

To be completely honest I have found that my own natural Southern/Texas accent works well enough. Although I want to specify that I was raised in Houston, not Dallas. I've also spent a good number of years living in various parts of the Deep South.

I find the accent in Delaware to be rather strange, but light enough that it doesn't annoy me.
