Is it normal to pretend not to hear someone so they will repeat

I have several friends and colleagues who do it. It's annoying because you know they heard you the first time and are just making you repeat yourself so they'll have a bit more time to think it over.

Why should I have to expend effort because of this? When someone asks me something I have to think about, I think about it. I don't say, "Hey, do some star jumps and repeat the question for a while".

I have Tinnitus causing me to be partially deaf.

i do that when my friend says something in a funny way i ask her to say it again so i can laugh more

if you're being a jerk about it though... best be prepared to accept if you get called out on it ;-)

I hit someone for doing that once.

I do that sometimes if I need an extra second to think of an answer or reply.
