Is it normal to polish an apple on your clothes before you eat it?

  • Yes, it's normal. It's an ingrained habit from when apples were covered in dirt/rain/etc.. Not that it actually gets most chemicals or pesticides off, but apples these days are covered in wax. A very thin layer (micrometers), that comes off when you polish it on a rough cloth.

Ever notice how a dark shirt gets this kind of cloudy area on it where you've scrubbed an apple? Wax on, wax off. [/Miyagi]
