Not normal. But not harmful so long as you know that it does absolutely nothing. If you are ill, or going through bad times it might be a good idea to try to believe that it does do something so that you gain a placebo affect (if you think that you are doing something to make you feel better, you will feel better even if that thing is actually useless).
