Is it normal to only poop less than once a week?

I'm not fat. I drink a lot of water, and eat fairly healthy. Yet it's so hard to go and I never am able to go more than once a week, if that.

Is It Normal?

  • How is your fiber intake? I mean fruits, vegetables and whole grains? It's not good for you to be continuously constipated especially if it hurts when you have a bowel movement. Eventually these sort of bathroom problems can lead to hemorrhoids which is a whole other world of booty hurt.

    • I'm not the OP, but i have a similar problem. It doesn't hurt me at all, but I know I should be going more often and can't. I'm also pretty small and don't weigh a lot. Can you give me some advice as well? What to eat, what to drink, or a recommendation of any laxatives? They're not prescription, right? I'd rather be able to get something quickly and easily without the annoyance of a doctor.

  • Dont use over the counter pharmaceuticals! Theyre toxic and overpriced! Eat some organic prunes, and what always makes me go is espresso with honey. I always have to poop half way thru.

  • Go to Wal Mart, buy a bottle of fiber chewables and some caffeine pills and I can promise you will be going more than once a week.

    It sounds stupid but this is an easy and practical solution.

  • You also may have a food allegrgy like to gluten. I know someone who is allergic to gluten and used to only go about once every 2 weeks before they found out and changed their diet.

  • Chickpea flour was the only thing that was able to cure my chronic constipation. That and increasing my liquid intake.

  • You probably just need more fiber intake. If that doesn't work maybe you can take a laxative or go to the doctor to make sure you have nothing where in there.

    • A good emergency laxative is Senna leaf tea. However, like the majority of laxatives, it should probably only be taken once a month, otherwise the body could form a decency on it and you wouldn't be able to go without it.
