Is it normal to only have strong opinions when anonymous?

I only like to have strong opinions and argue my case when I am anonymous. It is because I don't want some people knowing what I think because I know they will be pissed. Is this normal to do? Should I stop?

Btw just curious, why do you care if you say controversial things? You're anonymous. Even if you weren't you're 6'4. Just beat their ass if they dont like it 😃🤣

Wanting to avoid conflict is perfectly natural. We're social creatures, and the instinct to avoid open conflict with others is strong, since confrontation can end in violence. Some scientists believe that one of the ways in which modern humans have evolved from earl humans is that we have become more tuned-in to others and better at dealing with disagreements by non-violent means. Early humans who flew off the handle at the slightest provocation tended to end up ostracised from their community or even dead, and so were less likely to pass on their genes.

The internet changed that dynamic, since there are few social brakes on people when they're online, and so you often see people being far louder, more assertive and just generally dickish than they ever are in real life.

It's fine to disagree with people, but it's rarely a productive use of time. Most people just dig in and defend their position when challenged by someone who doesn't see things as they do. Being openly hostile to those who disagree online seems to me negative for that reason, but also because it can lead to you becoming frustrated at your inability to have any impact on your target, because you'll tend to pick out features of the discussion which confirm your negative prejudices about those who believe differently to you, and because hostile behaviour online can bleed over into real life.

    • This pretty much sums up this whole site. Also I only want to be really opinionated when I'm anonymous because I don't want poeple to associate my unpopular beliefs, with the person they think of when they see my comments.

Makes sense... you end up with people thumbing down your comments indiscriminately because they hate you.

He's not. All he does is talk about his policies. The leaps his hater have to make to arrive at their preferred conclusion is amazing.

            • I agree! I also agree that fat acceptance is total bullshit that is telling emotionally weak people to be fine with dying 30 years early! I'll offend you with something!
