Is it normal to often feel like you're gonna puke?

Is it normal to get waves of nausea and to feel like you're gonna puke but don't on almost a daily basis?

  • I'm going to say no on this one. My suggestion would be for you to talk with your doctor about this as soon as you can. Better safe than sorry!

  • strange, i've been going through the same things recently. here are some ideas on what it could be and some ways you might be able to help it. i went on like that for a year and a half. i would do this gagging dry heaving thing a few times a day. but i never actually threw up until a couple weeks ago when i started throwing up whenever it happened.

i thought it might be a post nasal drip thing. so i blow my nose all the time and be sure not to sniffle, because any mucous that gets down my throat could make me feel like i was going to throw up. i also took a mucinex every day. that did help, but not entirely.

could also be chronic acid indigestion. so i started taking a prevacid every day. that wasn't it.

so i thought it might be something i do when i get really nervous or anxious. and i do get nervous or anxious a lot. so i figured out when it happens and what i'm feeling, and that's not it.

then i realized it generally happened when i had had caffeine that day. it hit me when i drank an iced tea and promptly threw it all up.

so... caffeine allergy is what i'm going with.

also - make sure you get enough sleep. since i've stopped ingesting caffeine this problem has almost entirely gone away.
but it happens every once in a while when i've woken up after getting barely any sleep.

i highly suggest considering all of these possible options.

another hint - when it does happen i put some water in my mouth and breathe in. then i hold my breath (doing my best to not let any of the air in mouth or lungs move around) for a few seconds. then breathe and swallow the water.

    best of luck!

Either way, if this has been occuring for more than a day, please go see a doctor.
