Yes, people should repress a major part of their life and being so as to not upset others. The onus is totally on the person doing nothing wrong, and not on bigots to actually think about how their ignorance impacts others.

What's the point of burdening them with your sexual preference? If you know it will upset them, do the right thing and keep it to yourself.
