Is it normal to not want to date those of your own ethnicity

Well i tend to have a preference for white males, and I've never had a problem with the whole race deal. Though i have yet to date I have found myself questioning myself on something. I dislike it when others judge another on their race; won't talk to,hire,or date someone b/c of their skin tone. so my question is this is it wrong for me, being a black female, to not be interested/ want to date black males. I just find them to be more of a brother/cousin to me,than those of another race.Don't get me wrong there are some out there that i find very attractive, but over all i like white males. So am i just as bad as whites who wont date blacks...am i racist against males of my own ethnicity?

Is It Normal?

  • Nope, you're not racist. Everyone has different preferences; it's normal, and not something you can or should try to control. In a sense it's "discrimination", but a kind we're all guilty of. I, as a 20-year-old girl, am much more interested in going out with other 20-year-olds than with 68-year-olds. Am I systematically discriminating the 68-year-olds? Yes! Is it morally reprehensible? No.

  • Normal, I'm a black male and I'd never date a black female again. Its been about 15 years. I talk to black women at work etc but just do not find them sexually attractive

  • I'm half Filipino and half German. When I was meeting a nice guy, he told me he was half Filipino and half German. And then it got sort of awkward to think about anything romantic after that point. So, I can see where you're coming from. I didn't feel like a racist and we just saw each other as family I guess.

  • You like what you like so just work with it. Seriously.
And I really wish people would stop overusing the word "racist". Being physically unattracted to a certain ethnicity does not mean you're racist. PLEASE, someone, look up the proper meaning of the word. Racism is ignorance, hatred, considering a race to be sub-human etc. All forced into our brains as we grow up. Nobody is born a racist!
Attraction on the other hand is for the most part outside our control. Even if I was reared into let's say a neo nazi family (not) I would still have the capacity to be attracted to a Jewish or Muslim girl. Or whatever those muppets choose to hate these days. Attraction is not a conscious decision although if we allow ourselves to be influenced by other factors, our final "decision" can change. The basic attraction will still be there though.
Have fun with whoever you want. Your life - your body!

  • I'm hispanic and I don't like shipanic guys because I feel the same way- like a bro or a cousin. I like white guys...I kind of have a blue-eye fetish...so it's normal. Your not racist.

  • I am a sixteen year old white male, and I've never dated a white girl. Not that I wouldn't, I just... haven't. I like pretty much place all ethnicities above white/caucasian in atractiveness.

  • My guess would be no. I don't think it is uncommon for people to find others from another race somewhat exotic and attractive. In fact, it is probably a good thing.

  • I'm like that too. I'm white and my boyfriend is filipino. I LOVE asian guys, and I seem to also have an attraction to black guys =p I don't like the idea of being with a white guy. White is so boring to me lol. (that sounds racist but w/e) I like the idea of being with someone of another race, especially if they're mixed =d
