Is it normal to not want to be friends anymore?

I knew my "best friend" did a lot of drugs the past few years, and I didn't really hang out with her then. Now we are in college and she wants me to be her roommate but I don't want to be around her anymore because she has been lying to me about being sober. I've been finding out through mutual friends that she is addicted to cocaine and oxy. Not to mention that she has done acid more times than she can count. Is it normal that I don't want to be associated with her anymore?

That is not weird at all. I personally wouldn't want to be around somebody like that either.

Not only is it normal for you not to want to be around this self destructive person,it is better for you that you aren't!

  • Of course. I agree that it it is better to let her know why. But you have very good reasons not to want to associate, or be associated with her.

Sure, but tell her how you feel. she has a right to know and maybe she needs a wake up call. You're not doing her any favors by avoiding her and not telling her why. If you don't want to be friends anymore, you have nothing to lose anyways, right? If she gets mad at you, it's only because she knows you're right.
