Well this was the first year where I realized I don't like Christmas. I think it's because of what it has become: a holiday for mass consumerism. I hate buying and getting gifts. I also don't have much of a family so yeah. I just merely believe in God but I'm not affiliated with any religion. Also everything feels empty after Christmas. I don't really like Christmas anymore. Is this normal?
It's normal... I used to love Christmas when I was a kid. We used to go to my grandparents place and the whole family would celebrate together... The preparation, decorating the Christmas tree, getting presents, all was wonderful.
Now, all of my grandparents are dead. My mum had some health issues a few years back. My dad had heart surgery done and has a few issues too. Also... Watching them age. It really pains me. Every year, they get just a bit older What's there to fucking celebrate?!
So after we stay up until 12 'o clock, my parents go to bed, I grab a bottle and have a few drinks to dull the pain. The only thing that makes me kinda happy is that I still got my parents, God bless them. And I spent last Christmas with my girlfriend.
And friends? Yeah, I got good friends, but they spend the holidays with their own families, cause we are all living abroad and don't see our relatives much.
So yeah... Fuck old age!
I agree. People have forgotten what Christmas represents and what it is truly supposed to be about. In my opinion it isn't about gifts and who gets what, it's about family and being together and celebrating something bigger than we could ever comprehend. I too, am disgusted with the marketing and advertising crap. It's all about money. And it shouldn't be. Just my opinion, you don't have to agree.
Me too, I don't quite like Christmas either cause of my family. I'm an only child, my Mom's not here and my Dad and I are the only ones here at home. So whenever Christmas comes, it's really boring and SAD. Really sad ... relatives don't come by on our place. If we do visit them the following day, it just gets even sadder , I don't know why, I just can't feel 'family' in my family. There are gifts, lots of it, but I don't really care cause they don't seem to know why we came and celebrated it with them.
