Is it normal to not know whether you believe in god or not?

  • I (and the government and all public schools and separation of church and state (state being that 'school kid thingy etc)) ALL feel some (most) certainty towards science and no god being involved with that.
There is no (not even 'some') certainty towards god at all! None. If anything all would say its 'belief' is so far beyond logic and reason that its absurd.

The only uncertainty is wondering how long it will be before the old myths die off.
Now you may suddenly think, oh that could take thousands of years (as it has been already) But the Internet (for home users) really started being strong only around Windows95 days (um that would be like less that 2 decades ago). Communication worldwide on what religious 'believers' feel to be true has all come too clear. I've always stated: "They believe in what?"
We have come a LONG way with religion out of law, out of schools, and most importantly fully accepted for not being a 'believer' in myths.

Since evolution has been proved as FACT now, all of a sudden we have people saying oh no they don't believe in the bible any longer (you know with miracles and half man half animal creatures and LOADS more crazy stuff, please check any google search about how crazy bible beliefs are not logically justifiable, and the evidence we see in the real world contradicts what it says). But NOW these 'believers' simply say they believe in god and are not actually religious? Say what? Isn't that totally against Christianity?

If the concern (you raise) is an uncertainty in a belief in god? Then that 'reason' would be towards common sense and rational reality reasoning. Of which is not a concern nor an uncertainty. Actually to the contrary it is fully accepted FACT that we acquire knowledge and continue human progression ONLY through science. As the old saying goes, what has god done for me lately? Absolutely nothing. Since the likelihood of any supernatural(s) existing has basically been seen as foolish thoughts.

What reasons could there be of any uncertainty towards a lack of belief in a god? Stupidity or ignorance possibly? Or childish immaturity or stubborn old men?
The human race is moving on. With advances in understanding our NATURAL universe its evolution and life itself. There is NO room for mythical backward non helpful unfounded beliefs in a magical god. As an 'atheist' I thought you would have known all of this already? What are you (or others) exactly unsure of? Does god exist? EXTREMELY unlikely, so much so that it is not even taught to children at public schools any longer, except as what people once thought to be true, the world is round - god really should have recited that into the bible, oh well he is a mistake of human thoughts and all.

What is your definition of atheist exactly? Mine is that we are open to the truth, oh dear we can't say that about people who 'believe' though who have NEVER not even once given an insy winsy reason why they believe except for a 'feeling'. I feel they're WRONG and with GOOD cause, but I'm happy for them to supply any reason (at all) why they 'feel' god may exist. Do note, I have never heard a valid reason to date, actually no one has.

    Edit//

Richard Dawkins (scientist), The God Delusion:

“The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.”

    • I think you misinterpreted my point, which wouldn't have been difficult, since it was only a sentence and I didn't explain what I meant.

When I said "good reasons", I didn't mean "good" as in positive, but rather "understandable". Maybe I was wrong for writing it that way, but that's the way I write.

As for the reasons, you've touched on them. When I wrote it, I had religion's place in society in mind. Whether you think it's right or wrong, religion plays a huge role in culture etc etc. With a belief system as prominent as say, Christianity, it's easy to be uncertain. I'm not going to label people ignorant or whatever for feeling uncertain, but do you see where I'm coming from?

Basically, what I'm saying is that religion is perfect for some people. Death is terrifying, and a lot of people find comfort in religion because it offers them hope. They are told that there is an afterlife, we aren't insignificant, and life actually means something. It's very appealing.

Now please don't jump to conclusions again! I'm not saying any of that is correct or whatever. Those are just some of the reasons I was talking about, as to why some people are uncertain. It's really just my opinion.

But I wasn't trying to say that I'm uncertain. I don't believe in God or Hell or Heaven. All I was trying to say was that I can understand why others would. That's all:P!
