Is it normal to not know what you want to do in life?

  • Many people don't really know what they want to do in college.

I have an anecdote you may find interesting.

A high school student was struggling to decide what he wanted to do in college, and his guidance counselor told him to pursue the sciences (architecture can work too), as they generally pay well. He ended up doing so even though all he liked to do was drive his truck and listen to music.

Five years later, he was working in industry making very good money. He always spent some time doing what he liked and saved his money from the well-paying job.

With this money, he ended up buying several more trucks, and then hired out more people to drive these trucks.

Fast forward ten years and the high school student is now in his mid thirties and all he does is drive in his truck and listen to music as his successful shipping business takes care of him and allows him to do what he loves.

What I drew from this was that even if you don't like your job/school, you can still use it to your advantage and do what you like to.

In the end though, it's your choice and you should still do what will make you happy. We can't really help much in this situation.

    • This was one of the best comments I've seen on here. It really makes you think about how life can be like when you get older.
