Is it normal to not have best friends?

I'm 22 & haven't had a best friend in 12 years, only good friends that i travelled around Europe, friends that i did cool projects with, work friends and going out with friends. Unless they make the effort to contact me, i won't contact them and I've recently been saying no to going out drinking/clubbing, as i think its a waste of time, money and quite boring.

I've just split up with my girlfriend and i guess shes my closest friend as we still cook, eat and hang out together. I'm quite close to my family and visit grandparents, parents, uncles/aunts and siblings often, but i just don't really see much in making close friends who you practically spend all your time with. It makes me feel a bit sad, as everyone seems to have people phoning/texting/facebooking them all the time, but i like the way i am and am afraid people look down on me because of the way i am.

Is this normal? Is anyone else like this?

I have the same feelings. I also question why I don't really enjoy good friends all that much. But if you're fulfilled by your family and otherwise feel good about life then try not to worry too much. I think very intelligent people enjoy their own company and don't really feel an overwhelming need to hang out with others. Maybe you're just maturing!

I didnt vote because I don't know if its normal but I am assuming your gay- which is neither here nor there- but I am married and mid thirties and haven't had close friends either since my teens. I lost a lot of friends when I moved schools and it hurt a lot and I just never had the interest to replace them or risk the loss again I do have work friends etc and we sound very similar but as to whether it's normal I dont know
