It is totally normal! I have the exact same fear you do. It has got better with age, but going #2 in a public bathroom, or any bathroom that isn't mine, is totally a no-no! Unless I cannot hold it, I WILL NOT go anywhere else because of embarrassment and feeling uncomfortable. I cannot relax enough to actually go. Even at family member's houses I have a problem going. Fortunately enough, I don't go the so called average of "3 a day." I'd be lucky if I went more than 3 times a week! I actually had a problem when I was younger and still to this day with even peeing in a public bathroom! When I have to pee when I'm shopping for instance, it takes me quite a while to go because I'm always afraid of someone hearing the tinkle, lol. It was a big problem for me growing up and in school. The only way I'm able to go in a public place is telling myself that everyone does it and no one can get away with being totally silent! Also, most of the time I tell myself that by the time I'm done, the person who heard me will probably be done and gone themselves before I even get out of the stall so they more than likely don't know who I am and won't see me when I come out. But, sometimes I wait until everyone is out and then try to go until the next person comes in. Anyway, yes it's totally normal and I'd even say probably about 60-75% of people share this same fear. I haven't totally overcome this fear yet, so I can't really suggest anything besides just telling yourself "who cares if they hear or smell me, everyone does it!". It gets better with me day by day. I hope you can do the same! Good luck!
