Is it normal to not cry over your childhood pet dying?

Recently, my dog, whom I had since I was 5, has passed away. I am 18 now. I carried her out to the pet hospital and they took her off to a crematorium. I did not cry. I did not cry for my cat, either, about a year or two ago, but I did not have her for as long. Come to think of it, I haven't cried for any death, animal or otherwise, since the family dog died when I was 12. I would suppose it is part of being older, but my mother cried, and I hear of adults crying over pet deaths a lot.

I don't think this is normal but I love pets. If you aren't an animal person this is probably very normal.

I feel the same about it. I find it strange that someone won't cry because sometimes I still cry over pets I lost 15 years ago - and I've had so many.

You were talking about Bru now, right? For a moment I thought it was Sasa and replied to that! Oops!

Did I tell you Bruma means Mist? Well, that's her - A Mist of Avalon. :)

Do you feel sadness about it? Everyone grieves differently. There is no rule that says you have to cry when others do. As long as you deal with your emotions in your own way I can't see an issue. Some people just don't cry as much as other people.

Everyone grieves and reacts in a different way from each other. This does not necessarily say anything bad about you as a person.

If you still feel bad regardless, its 100% fine. You are probably just not a cryer, which is rather common.

I don't think there is nothing wrong with not crying. You can't do anything to the situation, so why mourn? Accepting its loss and appreciating the pet of being a part of your life is already enough.
After all, every living creature dies and eventually everyone has to move on.

Everybody's different, and you shouldn't worry about it. Some people show emotion much more than others and that includes crying. it doesn't mean anything about what you feel inside. Particularly with death it's part of life and some people rationalize that better than others.
