I've felt the same way for as long as I can remember. Society frowns upon this simply because society already frowned upon it. Meaning, people are brought up around this mindset and conditioned to think that you need to go to college, work hard towards a prestigious job, etc. or else you're a loser/aren't someone to respect/aren't important. Then those people bring their own kids up around this mindset and so on. I've realized I would much prefer making a humble, stress-free living than busting my ass off in order to appease people who don't deserve any appeasing, whose opinions on me have no bearing. Besides, if anything, someone who realizes what they truly want and works towards that is far more respectable than someone who works hard because they're afraid of what society would think of them otherwise.
